Treeing Walker Coonhound Rescue, Exercise and Hunting

Many owners take ownership of a dog without fully understanding what special needs or challenges that they may face with the breed of their choice. They may not fully understand the intense need for exercise that some breeds have or have unfair expectations for their new pet. Many pets end up being rescued each year, because they are either being mistreated, not given proper Veterinary care, proper living conditions, or simply the owners don’t want them anymore because they require more care and attention than expected.

The Treeing Walker Coonhound dogs were first noted as a separate breed in 1945. Before that, they descended from the English Foxhound and were a cross breed of an unknown dog and the Walker Hound. Treeing Walker Coonhounds are extremely cuddly, loving, loyal dogs, but when they are on the track of their game they are unable to follow commands. Their innate sense of smell takes over and they are on the hunt. They can run very fast and end up miles from their owner. Many hunters are now using GPS systems to track and locate their dogs when they run too far away. They are extremely vocal with a distinctive bark that allows their owners to find them easily even from far away. Without a GPS system, a Treeing Walker Coonhound rescue may be needed if a hunter cannot track his dog.

A Treeing Walker Coonhound Rescue may also be needed in the event that their owner is using them improperly for hunting. They are a very active hunting dog that loves to run and track game for their owners. They provide a very functional use for hunting but can also make a great companion. Another reason for a Treeing Walker Coonhound rescue would be lack of Veterinary care. Because these dogs run through forests when hunting they may injure themselves. They always need to be checked over for injuries when they return from the hunting expedition.

This breed loves to cuddle in bed with their owners and are very good with other dogs and children. While Treeing Walker Coonhounds are very affectionate, they are best suited for a life being outdoors. This dog needs a big yard with very tall fences, as he can scale walls and fences with ease. He can also use objects to help him do so. If containing this dog becomes a problem for the owner, a Treeing Walker Coonhound rescue may be necessary. This is a great breed for a hunter, but this is not a breed for everyone based on it’s need for exercise, space, and containment.
